President - Amy Petersen-Smith
Amy has lead an active life since her youth with various sports. In 2009, she decided to give Iron Girl Columbia a "tri" as a goal to learn how to swim, and has been addicted since. Since 2009 she has competed in multi tris in a half a dozen states. Most recently she completed her second half ironman distance at the Rev 3 Cedar Point and Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco. Amy not only enjoys training and competing but loves to cook and spend time with her family.
Vice President - Kim Sheridan
Kim was introduced to triathlon when a friend convinced her to do the first IronGirl Columbia in 2006. Not even knowing what a triathlon really was, it was quite an experience! Despite the challenges of doing a race without ever having ridden the bike course, run the run course or been to a training session, Kim was determined to figure this thing out and do it again, at least a little better. After the second IG race, and completely hooked on triathlon, Kim searched for a local club and found MMTC! What an incredible experience, amazing people and wonderful friends--truly life-changing. Since joining MMTC, Kim has completed Sprint, Olympic, Half IM and IM distance races, along with her first half marathon, marathon, 50K and 50 Miler.Who knew? Amazing what you can do with the encouragement and support of a great club and good friends! Prior to joining the Executive BOD, Kim has run transition clinics, co-chaired the MMTC Mentor Program, been a tent captain, led IronGirl bike rides and runs, volunteered at many local and destination races and is part of Team Fight for the Ulman Cancer Fund. Fell in love with Lake Placid after volunteering in 2010 and racing in 2011 and goes every year to support MMTC and enjoy one of her favorite places ever! Her son Patrick is a member of MMTC and races triathlon, while daughters Kaitlin and Christina play lacrosse at Towson and Boston Universtiy.
Secretary - Aleah Zinalabedini
Aleah did her first IG in 2009 after being persuaded by friends to "try a tri." Aleah finally decided it would be a good idea to get a bike for this triathlon thing in June, and rode some. Being a runner, she didn't think she would need to train very much! Well, needless to say IG was an absolute disaster, but she was hooked and couldn't wait to do it again and learn from all the rookie mistakes! Since then, Aleah decided if she was going to be a triathlete, she should have the support of a club and joined MMTC in May of 2011. Life as a triathlete has never been the same! Completing numerous sprint and Oly tri's, three 1/2 iron distance, and her first full ironman in July of 2013 in Lake Placid. All this was made possible with love and support from the incredible people of MMTC! Aleah loves the triathlon community and supports as much as possible when not racing!
Treasurer - Mark Lash
Communications - Bryan McMillian
Bryan was suckered into signing up for his first triathlon (Columbia Tri 2009) by someone who said, “you’ve got to have goals or you’re just floundering.” He was introduced to MMTC on a bike ride with Dawn Rudolph back in 2008 and has been indebted to her ever since for his foray into this wondrous insanity. Since proclaiming, back in 2009 that this was just something to try and not get too serious about, he has spent all three of his kids’ college fund monies and remortgaged the family home to pay for race fees and gear. Ok, he was kidding about the mortgage part. Bryan has participated in everything from indoor sprint triathlons up to Ironman Lake Placid in 2013 – which to this day remains the most transformative event he has ever participated in. Bryan has been active in the club by volunteering at many Trash Clean Up and Bric ‘n Pic events, volunteered on Gatorade Hill (Behave baby!), supported the Iron Girl Tent, was Mentoring Coordinator for several years and most recently as Race Director for the past 3 years for the MMTC TriAtholton Kids Tri. Outside of triathlon he has found a new love for trail running – again, thanks to MMTC members and snow skiing. The entire McMillan household is filled with triathletes and nothing gives him more joy that to see those that he loves reach their own goals. Bryan’s goal as Communications Director is to provide timely and useful information to help your triathlon journey be rewarding and thought provoking. If you have suggestions for any of the monthly newsletters, please drop him a note.
